Best No Vent Portable Air Conditioner Mid Priced

If you need a low running-cost vent free air cooler that's portable for around the mid price point, this review of the best available online will give you some ideas of what's available for that relatively low price.

You may be pleasantly surprised at what you can get for your money when you decide to increase the ceiling of your budget even just a little like this!

First of all, before I get into reviewing the top rated model as well as some close contenders for contrast (and to give you a little more by the way of choice), I just want to make it clear that non vented aircon units are really evaporative coolers and not true AC.

These coolers work as well as AC in dry atmospheres (low humidity), but their effectiveness at chilling a room declines as the humidity level rises.

If your home is situated in an area of high summer humidity, you are better off opting for a true AC unit. This will cost you a lot more in running costs (power consumption is much higher) but at least you will get to stay cool when it's very hot.

Sometimes you just have to pay for your comfort when circumstances dictate!

The Top Rated Low Cost Evaporative Cooler

I have looked at dozens of these units from different manufacturers and also at different online stores that sell them. My conclusions are based on several factors as well as the current quoted price by the chosen store.

To rate as the best, the unit must be held in high regard by other customers who have also purchased and used it. It must do what the advertising says it does and chill a room the same size as my own living room by a good 20-30 degrees (Fahrenheit) in summer with humidity at below 40%.

Here is my favorite model:

Honeywell CS10XE Portable Evaporative Air Cooler

Just click on the image or the link below in red, to open the Amazon site in your browser at the exact page where you can read more it and all the many customer reviews from those that also bought it and discovered it to be a sound purchase!

Remember that you need to have low humidity for this type of cooler to work. You can also leave doors and windows cracked open to assist the cooling capability and maintain low humidity levels in the room.

This unit will chill the air in a room up to 175sq ft and so you don't have to refill it with water too often, it comes with a generous size 21 pint tank that is detachable for easy filling.

The unit is lightweight and easy to move from room to room on easy-glide wheels and has a remote control for your convenience.

I cannot stress this enough: If you have high humidity (above 50%) in your area, do NOT buy an evaporative cooler as it may NOT work!

Many simply did not understand the major differences between these devices and regular AC units.

Next Best Room Evaporative Coolers at Low Prices

It's always a good idea to have some alternatives to check out to get some contrast when you need to compare the options available. Take a look at these two close runners up for the title of best in the class of portable and vent free air cooling units:

Honeywell CO30XE

This unit came a very close second thanks to its great capacity and ability to cool a room up to 320sq ft by as much as 25F degrees. It comes with a huge 7.9 gallon easy fill water tank and a remote control and works indoors or outdoors to keep you cool where you need it.

It's a great way to stay cool and it's retail price is surprisingly affordable. It can be found at Amazon (often with a discount), making it amazing value for money!

Luma Comfort EC110S

top ventless portable AC

Another great choice, this unit is capable of cooling a room up to 250sq ft by up to 25F degrees. It comes with a remote control and has a 1.76 gallon reservoir that is easy to fill although it's not as large as that on the Honeywell.

Easily portable on smooth wheels, you can put this great little unit anywhere for a cold blast of coolness!

Both these units are highly efficient and send out a blast of cool breeze. But you need to ensure the room is not closed off or the humidity will rise and the cooling power will be less effective. Keep a window open to vent humid air out and site the unit near the window for best results.

Satyaki Paul, by “extremely humid” I guess you mean right up near the 80-100% level, at which a swamp cooler would not produce any noticeable cooling effect. It sounds like a window AC unit would be a better investment in terms of cooling capacity for you.

I am living in kolkata.its extremely humid here.I have a split ac and portable ac at my house. The portable ac is unable to cool the room as effectively at the peak hours of day.So will I buy air cooler to aid it?Or replace this with a window unit.My room is 100 sq. feet.

Hey Cheryl, I live on the west coast, so have no experience in MA or NJ. What I would do if I were you is check with local weather stations to find out what the humidity levels are through the year in your local area, especially in summer. If it’s low enough (under around 60%) you’re good to go.

In your specific case, I’d be curious to know why a room in your home gets up to 99 when its only 60 outside. Are the wall/window ACs vented correctly or are they sending hot exhaust air into another room instead of outside? Some investigation is needed because that can’t be right!

Anyway, if those ACs are venting correctly, they should dry the air inside enough for an evaporative cooler to be effective. But do check them out first and try and discover what’s making your room so hot in the first place before spending money on a further cooling solution. You might find it’s not even be necessary if something else is causing the excessive heat and can be fixed.

Hello. Great infi. Thank u!
Does anyone know I evaporative units work in New England, no one replied to the NJ resident. I’m in Boston MA..but I have a wall ac and window ac I might be able to get helo installing. However the licing room in between thosev2 rooms is hotter than hell. 99s when 60 outside! !. The other units may decrease the humidity level sufficiently ti enable evaporative unit to be effective sunce there aren’t doors in the entryways, wouldn’t u think??

We live in minnesota and use central air though out the summer but my daughter
Has a bedroom on the 3rd floor without a window that gets very warm, even with the ac on. It’s not humid but there is a skylight. Will a swamp cooler system work for us?

Hey Emily,

Yes that model is still made today. You can buy them online (although not from Amazon as at 2017) – I removed it from the article above. In its place I put the Honeywell CO30XE which is a much better cooler with a huge capacity and it’s good for indoor and outdoor use. Just click on its image above and it’ll open the page right there so you can see for yourself!

Do they still make this model.KUU Aire Pack A 43 350 CFM unit?

Greg says:

I heard they discontinued the PACKA53 this year (2016). No matter, there are other good models from that manufacturer.

Hey there, I bought a KuulAire PACKA53 500 two weeks ago seen as I live in a pretty hot part of Texas during the day and I cannot praise this amazing cooler enough. Humidity here is around 20% so its perfect for a swamp cooler like this and it uses next to nothing in electricity. Keeps me and the kids cool while they do homework and I’m helping. I don’t need a full AC when I can have a portable like this keep the indoor temps almost 30 degrees lower than outside. Full marks to Amazon for free delivery and it arrived day after I ordered it!
